Amended by Regulation (EU) 2024/1620 32024R1620
applies from: unknown
Sources disagree, and there is no text on either side — the EU's own amendment metadata and the amending act's instructions found this change; the text comparison finds no difference in the provision's text. All are shown; none is overruled.
No explanation shipped — the structural diff did not see this change, so it carries no text; another signal named the unit and the disagreement ships marked disputed.
text before / after
No text on either side: this unit was named by a signal that carries no text, and only the structural diff carries any.

Amended by Regulation (EU) 2019/2033 32019R2033
applies from: unknown (the text changed beyond its dates, so no date that moved can be read as the application date)
dates added to the text: 2019-11-27, 2019-12-05
Point (2)(vii) now ends with a semicolon instead of a full stop, and a new point (2)(viii) has been added covering competent authorities as defined under Regulation (EU) 2019/2033 and Directive (EU) 2019/2034.
The earlier version of Article 4 contained only point (2)(vii) as the final item under the definition of competent authorities, with no reference to Regulation (EU) 2019/2033 or Directive (EU) 2019/2034.

Amended by Regulation (EU) 2019/2175 32019R2175
applies from: unknown (the text changed beyond its dates, so no date that moved can be read as the application date)
dates added to the text: 2009-09-16, 2012-03-14, 2014-02-04, 2015-04-29 · dates removed: 2014-04-16
The definition of financial institution is rewritten from a list of specific categories tied to named directives into a single reference to any undertaking subject to regulation and supervision under the acts listed in Article 1(2), and a new point (1a) defining financial sector operator is added.
The list of competent authorities in point (2) is expanded and restructured, adding new sub-points covering Directive (EU) 2015/849 supervisors, deposit guarantee scheme administrative authorities, and authorities under Directive 2014/17/EU, Regulation (EU) 2015/751, Directive (EU) 2015/2366, Directive 2009/110/EC, Regulation (EU) No 260/2012 and Article 20 of Directive 2008/48/EC, while removing the earlier reference to Directive 2005/60/EC and to bodies administering deposit guarantee schemes under Directive 2014/49/EU as previously worded.
The resolution authorities wording in the deposit guarantee and resolution sub-points is also reworded, changing "defined in Article 3" to "designated in accordance with Article 3" of Directive 2014/59/EU.

in force 2016-01-12 MODIFIED§
Amended by Directive (EU) 2015/2366 32015L2366
applies from: unchanged
The definition of financial institutions in point (1) now refers to credit institutions and investment firms as defined in Regulation (EU) No 575/2013 rather than in the earlier directives, and it adds payment service providers as defined in Directive (EU) 2015/2366 and electronic money institutions as defined in Directive 2009/110/EC to the list.
The exception concerning financial institutions under the anti-money-laundering directive now cites Directive (EU) 2015/849 instead of Directive 2005/60/EC.

in force 2014-08-19 MODIFIED§
Amended by Regulation (EU) No 806/2014 32014R0806
applies from: unknown (the text changed beyond its dates, so no date that moved can be read as the application date)
dates added to the text: 2014-07-15
Sources disagree about what is listed, not about the text — the text comparison and the amending act's instructions found this change; the EU's own amendment metadata does not list it. All are shown; none is overruled.
The defined term changes from the singular "competent authority" to the plural "competent authorities", and point (i) now adds the European Central Bank with regard to tasks conferred on it by Regulation (EU) No 1024/2013 alongside the reference tied to Regulation (EU) No 575/2013 and the two directives.
Point (iii) is reworded from referring to a single designated authority under Directive 2014/49/EU to referring to bodies which administer deposit guarantee schemes under that Directive, or, where a private company administers the scheme, the public authority supervising it.
Point (iv) is expanded from naming only a resolution authority under Directive 2014/59/EU to also referring to Regulation (EU) No 806/2014 and naming the resolution authorities defined in Article 3 of that Directive, the Single Resolution Board, and the Council and the Commission when acting under Article 18 of that Regulation, except where they exercise discretionary powers or make policy choices.

in force 2014-07-02 MODIFIED§
Amended by Directive 2014/59/EU 32014L0059
applies from: unknown (the text changed beyond its dates, so no date that moved can be read as the application date)
dates added to the text: 2014-04-16, 2014-05-15
The term being defined changes from the plural "competent authorities" to the singular "competent authority", and point (i) rephrases its cross-reference to Regulation (EU) No 575/2013 while also referencing Directives 2007/64/EC and 2009/110/EC directly rather than only the latter individually as before.
Point (iii), which previously referred to bodies administering deposit-guarantee schemes under Directive 94/19/EC or the public authority supervising them, is replaced with a reference to a designated authority as defined in Directive 2014/49/EU.
A new point (iv) is added, referring to a resolution authority as defined in Directive 2014/59/EU, which did not appear in the earlier text.

in force 2013-10-30 MODIFIED§
Amended by Regulation (EU) No 1022/2013 32013R1022
applies from: unchanged
Point (2)(i) no longer refers to competent authorities as defined in Directives 2006/48/EC and 2006/49/EC, replacing that reference with a reference to point (40) of Article 4(1) of Regulation (EU) No 575/2013, and it adds mention of the European Central Bank regarding tasks conferred on it by Regulation (EU) No 1024/2013.
The reference to Directive 2007/64/EC and to Directive 2009/110/EC in that same point is retained from the earlier text.
